Ozlife Begins

Proud Parent- Struggling to be the best Mother- Raising Children in an Australian Culture

One week down September 30, 2008

One week down for my kids school holidays and one week to go. I spent almost all my time with them playing at the park doing football, soccer, biking, scooting and let them play with other kids of course. If the weather is fine, there’s a lot of people at the park. Different races like Russians, Indians, Koreans, Chinese, Japanese but all are speaking English. It’s nice to mingle with different kinds of races. Talking about different cultures. Australia welcomes all races and that’s what I like it here. My kids loves this country now but of course I always remind them to love our Mother Country, the Philippines. I don’t want them to forget where we originally belong.

The weather forecast for the whole week seems not good because it stated as rainy week and only tomorrow will be sunny up to 24 degrees. But hey, as of this hour, the sun is shining brightly. We went out this morning until 11 am. I let them take a bath, eat lunch and then sleep. Now the two boys are  awake. They’re eating apples as snacks and after that, ready to go out again. Obviously, I will be going out too. I’m just finishing this post and wait for my youngest to wake up. I still let my children sleep in the afternoon if they’re on a holiday as we always did back at our own country. Most of the kids here in Aussie seem like not sleeping in the afternoon. Letting your children sleep in the afternoon for an hour is a secret of kids alertness. Are you aware of that? That’s what I observed and based on experienced.

I took pictures of all my activities with my kids and I uploaded them at in my flickr account. You can see some of them at my right sidebar widget. I also posted in my bravejournal account that I got a new tech toy. A DLSR camera Canon EOS 1000D and I enjoy playing with it. You will see, I mostly take pictures of my children while we’re at the park. Just take a look at my flickr. Here’s some sample…

Our little ones 3rd Birthday September 28, 2008

Filed under: Mjay's Birthday, Ozlife, parenting — Joyoz @ 3:37p09

Our youngest celebrated his third birthday last night.  We had a not big celebration. We invited more than 10 people from Oracle, my husband’s officemates and Filipino friends. We just ordered Filipino dishes from a Filipino Catering Service. Yes! There is a Filipino catering service here in Australia and it’s my first time to taste again Filipino foods since we came here in Down under. The celebration started 6 PM and end up by PM. After eating, we had some mild drinks, karaoke using Wow Magic Sing. Filipinos loves to sing and Karaoke singing is always possible in every gathering. It adds the fun. We obviously doesn’t have a children party but it doesn’t matter anyway. Kids were having fun too opening my little ones gifts from generous friends. A gift is not required but some people really thoughtful and we Filipinos used to give birthday gifts especially for kids. We had fun chit-chatting, singing and etc. It’s a fun night and our baby loves all his gifts which are all his favorites. We still have lots of food left even if we let some of our visitors to take home. Oh my goodness, I don’t want to think when we can consume it all and maintain the freshness.

Filipino dishes Daddy ordered:
Crispy Pata
Pancit sotanghon guisado
Camaron rebosado
Lumipang Shanghai (spring rolls)
Chicken Relleno
Roast beef
Chopsuey
A friend brought us steamed fish and it’s really delicious.

The night’s fun :D .

The weekend visitors September 22, 2008

Last Saturday my older son got a visitor and take note it’s a girl. A very pretty Jewish girl who always beg my son to let him come to our house. Since it’s the first weekend holiday of their break from school, I said ok she can some to our house. As I mentioned before, children here used to visit each others houses. Anyway the parents are my friends so they just talked to me to drop their daughter in the morning by 10 am. So early for me but it doesn’t matter because they’ll just stay for one hour. Not bad to handle lot’s of kids in just short span of time :D . I prefer food but they didn’t ate because according to them they already had a big lunch. Lunch by 10 am? I’m not used to it. But I admire the kids because they don’t just accept foods being offered by not so known people to them. But before my kids visitors came, I give them one task. You know what’s the task is? Take a look at the picture below.

Cleaning our front yard.
After cleaning our front yard like picking all those dried leaves scattered all around the rain poured. I thought the visitor won’t come anymore but they arrived and very excited. What’s their activity for one hour? Take look at this pictures below again…

Yeah absolutely Wii play and computer games. I didn’t mention that the pretty little girl has a brother who is my second son’s classmate in Prep. So they’re pair with playmates. My little one just busy with his own world hehehe. I can say that they’re having fun because they don’t have idea about Wii and my son teach them to play sports especially the bowling game. After one hour their dad picked them up but before that we had a little talk for a while. Parents to parents you know.

First time separated September 3, 2008

My oldest son was invited to come to the house of his classmate last Saturday. It’s the first time my son go to another house and play with another kids without us. My second son thought he could come with his brother, but to his dismay, he wasn’t allowed. What I mean is, he is not invited. Sad to hear isn’t it? He’s really upset that time when his brother was picked up and he couldn’t come. I just do my best to let him calm down. I’m a bit hurt too for him. My poor baby. But, he should understand that sometimes they can’t be together for always. Once he is invited to come into another house, his brother couldn’t come too. Even birthday party celebration invitation they can’t be together for always. It’s the first time they separated during weekends. Even me felt a little strange because it’s also the first time that my son is not coming with us. What more their Dad felt uneasy too when our son was not coming home early as we expected. I just told him to relax because nothing will happened. The mother of my son’s classmate is my friend and she is my closest friend of all the mothers too. She’s a lot older than me and she’s even older than my mom too. She is a  Russian but a very nice woman. They’re nice to us. They offer us a ride during the Cabaret because they knew that we don’t have car yet. Imagine, we are all five to ride their car and they’re so kind to offered us a free ride. If not, we maybe riding a train or rent a cab in the middle of that rainy night of the Cabaret. Thanks God for giving us nice people to be our friends.
We just went to Victoria Market that day and bought some toys for him as I promised. My oldest son was having a great time too and was happy to be home with us.

Playing Wii sports with my kids August 16, 2008

Filed under: Family day, Ozlife, home — Joyoz @ 3:37p08

I rarely play with our Wii since the day hubby bought it. I don’t wanna interrupt them playing because they’re really hooked on it. But today I am having fun playing again. My kids are so tough. They even beat me up with bowling and tennis game. We are changing turn if one is lost because we only have two console. It’s me and Daddy’s turn for tennis but in the middle of the game, I suddenly sprained my left arm. I’m left-handed. Gosh! It hurt so bad when I try to swing it. I tried to use my right hand to finish the turn of our game but it just made my performance so bad hahaha. I lose and I only won twice. My son Jarred always striked the bowling tin and Jover sometimes. I love tennis sport in Wii. I quit and they continue playing with another game Pokemon.

Daddy toke us photos. It looks funny :D

Vacation is over July 14, 2008

Two weeks vacation is over and back to school again. Today is the first day of school and the start of the term 3. My kids were very happy and excited. They love to go to school than to stay at home. Maybe because it’s boring sometimes especially winter season. They prefer to see their friends and classmates. Oh well at least they love to go to school.

During their vacation they just spent their time playing, reading and drawings, watching television, playing wii games and singing. Yeah singing. They love to sing which was influenced by me. We have a magic sing apparatus that we brought from the Philippines. They can sing well and I may say they they have a talent in singing.

Treat kids at Melbourne Zoo June 9, 2008

We’ve been to Melbourne Zoo last 2 weeks ago. It’s our first time to step on that place but that was really fun and exciting. My kids were amazed with all the animals they saw like Zebras, Kangaroos, Lion, Tigers and many more. Visit my What A World Blog to see those animals in the Zoo.
My kids mouths can’t stop opening and saying very exprresive words and emotion that really you can see in their faces the excitement and happiness to witness those animals for the first time. They love to see animals and collect toys of it. It’s good to let them know how are they really look like in real. Too bad there is no dinosaurs there for it is my Jarred’s favourite toys to collect lol!
I love the place because I felt very close to nature. The green and wide sorroundings, the fresh air, the tress and some flowers are lovely to see.
Here we are at the Melbourne Zoo…

My First Birthday in Aussie May 6, 2008

Filed under: Ozlife, journal — Joyoz @ 3:37p05

Yes guys. Last May 1 Thursday is my first birthday here in Australia. I never expect any celebration as I don’t feel like celebrating my 28th birthday because the place is still strange to me. No visitors, no friends and relatives to invite. People were busy and hubby just take the time to leave from office to spent the day for me
I remember my last celebration is Manila Philippines Quezon City. May 1 is holiday because it’s Labor Day. That birthday was simple but I am happy celebrating it because my mom was there, my cousins, my aunt and some of my friends. I was able to share my simple celebration as well as my family of course. Now that we’re here in Australia, it was really different. Just me, my hubby and the kids. We had simple celebration and picture taking as a remembrance. I like the food that hubby cooked. He bought a one piece of crab and steamed it for me and I am the only one eating it that took me 2days to finish lol! Spaghetti for the kids and roast pork for all of us to share. I blew 28 candles because it’s my ritual every time I will celebrate my birthday. Makes me feel young at heart. Thank you Lord for another year added to my life.
Let me show you our pictures with my simple cecebration…
